The Lancashire Society Chairman’s Report
31st March 2011
An interesting year taken up mainly by the launch events for our “The Noise We Mek” project. Reports on these have been on our website for some time, they were extremely well received by the audiences and by our venue hosts. Reaction from our National Lottery sponsors was all positive and we move forward now to implementation year in 2011and work has already started on recording volunteers both with interviews and studio based dialect readings. A number of schools presentations are also in the pipeline for later in the academic year.
Whilst Internet membership is growing we are still, however, struggling to find the right balance of meetings and performances to stimulate these members. Nonetheless, enquiries from outside bodies for Lancashire themed entertainments continue to be received by both the Society and by individual members and this may be one way forward. Our website has attracted several requests for information on Lancashire’s history and dialect showing that there is a need out there for a central point of reference.
Considering that we started just two years ago with the remains of the old Lancashire Dialect Society we are in a strong position to continue with our original aims developing both local and national recognition for the Society.
